Amy Sausser - KIYC Captain of the Month - March 2020

CONGRATULATIONS TO AMY SAUSSER - KIYC'S NEWEST CAPTAIN OF THE MONTH! Amy's husband, Andy, sent this heartfelt nomination:

I nominate my wife Amy Sausser as captain of the month. She has been on Lake Erie for all of her 60 years. Sailing on a variety of boats with her parents and now on powerboats she has seen all kinds of winds, waves and weather.

Her father Norm Winkel instilled a life long love of Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. First sailing on 18’ Interlakes, then Tartan 27s, a Tartan 30, and finally an S2 10.3 Amy became an accomplished sailor racing regattas from Toledo, Detroit, Cleveland, Mentor and of course I-LYA Bay Week where her father served as commodore in 1977.

Since she & I have been married we have sailed Interlakes, but spend most of our time on our 1967 Chris Craft and her 1957 Lyman. She has been instrumental in forming the Sunday Morning Girls Club, which is a group (of) Lyman owners who enjoy each other’s company and boats in the summer.

We try to spend as much time as possible at Kelleys, hopping over for a bite and some libations on a regular basis.
